Taco Bell Might Be Ringing It’s Last Bell

Taco Bell might be packing up its tacos in Australia, as Collins Foods, the folks behind both Taco Bell and KFC, announced it’s either selling the chain or shutting it down if a buyer isn’t found within the next year.

Third Time.. Unlucky?

There are currently 27 Taco Bell stores across the country, but their time may be running out. This is Taco Bell’s third attempt to win Aussie hearts (and stomachs), with the first crack all the way back in 1981. Sadly, it seems Aussies still prefer a cheeky Guzman y Gomez burrito or a classic KFC bucket.

New Boss, New Plan

Under new CEO Xavier Simonet, Collins Foods is doing a strategic clean-up. While Taco Bell might be getting the boot, KFC is set to grow in places like Germany. Meanwhile, the company’s Dutch operations are getting a $30 million write-off. Ouch.

Talks are underway with Taco Bell International about finding a new owner. But if no one’s keen on buying, the stores could be gone faster than you can say “extra guac.”
