After a horror year on Queensland roads in 2024, CQ motorists are ignoring road safety rules and putting road user lives at risk.
Capricornia District road stats for the past week show 345 speeders were caught, including three high range incidents.
Among those was a motorist nabbed going 47km/hr over the speed limit at Callemondah, in Gladstone.
Police also carried out more than 4,000 RBT’s in the past week, catching 12 drink drivers and 19 drug drivers who will face court in the coming weeks.
At Ironport, one driver was nabbed doing 125 km/hr in an 80 zone.
The result of the thousands of RBT’s conducted across CQ saw some major drink drivers busted, including an Allenstown motorist busted with a staggering 0.250 BAC – five times the limit – and a Yeppoon driver blowing a reading of 0.158 BAC.
In 2024, more than 300 motorists died on Queensland roads, the highest fatality number in more than five years.
Local police will remind the public it is critical to remember the Fatal Five as the holiday period continues.
